Stansted airport expansion rejected

Friday, December 1st, 2006

Uttlesford Council has unanimously rejected a planning application that would increase passenger journeys from Stansted Airport to 35 million.  The grounds for rejection were that the proposed expansion will damage air quality, the local environment, and worsen climate change.  The claimed economic benefits of expansion were not sufficient to outweigh the environmental damage.
